Dear Apolonija & Alissa,
Today was the first day of swimming for the children and we had such a blast. We had some storms yesterday and we were just too tired so we just waited until today. All of the children are so brave and are already stretching their limits and trying to do more than they’re comfortable doing. We bought some life vests for each of them so they can float and then each of them did their best and all of them jumped off the diving board. Anna was the most bold and she immediately jumped in the pool and went under water. Bennett got used to the life vest really quick and was able to keep himself upright even though he’s too short to touch the bottom even in the shallow end. When you go under water and look at him he looks like he’s running in the pool, he just runs in the water and it propels him forward with the life vest on. David was a little more timid. He got scared when he first went in because his head went under and he wasn’t ready for it and he sucked in some water so it upset him. After a while of Georgia holding him in her arms though, he got back in the pool and I taught him how to blow bubbles in the water so that he wouldn’t suck in water. Once he got that down, he was braver and braver and went under water many times and became more comfortable. At the end of the swim time he decided it was OK for him to go off the diving board as well and it was so much fun for him that he did it several times and each time he became bolder. They’re all awesome!
We’re still dealing with a little jet lag and the children don’t quite understand. Especially Bennett – he wanted to get up a 3:30am this morning so we had a little struggle but nothing major. We thought a little less nap this afternoon and a good long round of swimming would go a long way to making a good nights sleep and getting over the jet lag.
That’s all for now – we love you all tons!
